Founded in 1988, Patz & Hall was one of the first California wineries to recognize America’s emerging appreciation for great site-specific wines, and played a pivotal role in bringing these acclaimed vineyard-designate Chardonnays and Pinots to a wider audience of enthusiasts.
To achieve this, Patz & Hall’s four founders—Donald Patz, James Hall, Anne Moses and Heather Patz—established a unique model, seeking out California’s greatest vineyards, regardless of appellation, and building rich, collaborative relationships with the gifted winegrowers who cultivate these Grand Cru-caliber sites. In many cases, Patz & Hall has been partnering with these growers for decades. In fact, special blocks have been planted exclusively for Patz & Hall at vineyards like Hyde, Alder Springs and Chenoweth Ranch. At other sites, such as Dutton Ranch, Pisoni and Hudson, Patz & Hall works with the most coveted old-vine blocks, or even shares blocks with the owners themselves. From these famed vineyards, Patz & Hall makes some of the New World’s most stirring and sought-after single-vineyard Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs—wines that have become benchmarks for their intensity, elegance and complexity.
